Discover the Heart of Portland: Po’ Shines Café

For over 27 years, Po’ Shines Café De La Soul has proudly stood as a cornerstone of the Kenton neighborhood and as one of Oregon's longest-running Black-owned dining establishments, originally founded in 1998 as Friday Enterprises and rebranded in 2003, our journey has been fueled by a commitment to not just serve, but to uplift, Voted by Goggle Portland’s #1 Soul Food Restaurant for 2025!

A Commitment to Community

Under the visionary leadership of CEO Ed Mondainé, we have embraced our role as a community anchor. During the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, we took action—providing over 10,000 meals to seniors and, in collaboration with Multnomah County, delivering more than 7,000 hot, homemade meals to our unhoused neighbors. These meals were crafted with care, featuring nutritious options like Eggplant Parmesan, Smoked Jerk Chicken, and Jambalaya, all prepared with dignity and intention.

A Tradition of Giving

For three decades, our annual Thanksgiving Dinner has been a beacon of hope, offering freshly cooked, soulful holiday meals to over 700 families each year. This cherished tradition is rooted in love, generosity, and cultural pride, reinforcing our commitment to the community we serve. Join us at Po’ Shines, where every meal is more than just food—it’s a celebration of culture, community, and resilience.
